5k Training Via Podcasts and an App to Sync Your iTunes to Your Android Phone (ex: Samsung Galaxy III S)

I've decided to start training for a 5k. I'd like to be in better shape for sparring. I'm always so out of breath. We don't do too much cardio in Kung Fu; it's mostly strength building and endurance. I thought I was in much better shape than I am. I'm using a podcast for training. He alternates running and walking. He plays music and then tells you when to run/walk. He'll let you know that you have a minute left. I really like it so far. It is tougher than I thought it would be for somebody as active as me. Of course, I guess I need to consider that I'm running up hills and running in between Kung Fu workouts, which I go to 3-4 times a week. That's a lot of leg work! If you want to get up and get moving, I recommend a podcast. There is so much out there for free! Look at all the free podcasts that come up when I search "5k training" in the iTunes store:

Come on! You can do it! Order a cheap armband and some headphones on Amazon and get started! Have iTunes but no iPhone or iPod??? No worries, if you have an Android phone such as the Samsung Galaxy, there is a program for just a couple of pounds (a few dollars) that allows you to sync your Android with iTunes. The app is called 'iSyncr' and is really easy to use. There is no programming or dealing with random folders. You install it on your Android phone from the app store and then download the program (free for this part) on your computer. It's both Mac and PC compatible. When you plug in your phone via USB, it starts the program. All you do is select your music or podcasts and click "Sync" to download them onto your phone. Awesome right? I use it and really like it!

  1. As a fellow Android user, thank you for the info :) Good luck, there is zero chance of me being willing to run in million degree thousand percent humidity Houston area, but I will revisit when it's cooler....so, January it is.

    1. Superhydrate and I bet you can start sooner than you think! Happy to hear that the app info is useful. It really is easy to use, and it's so nice to not have to carry around my big phone and an iPod.

  2. Great resource. I've stopped running for the remainder of my pregnancy, but this will come in handy when I get back to it post-baby.
